Applications have now closed.

Hampshire County Scouts are running an Explorer Belt expedition to Malta in early July 2025. This will be open to primarily Hampshire Explorer and Network members aged 16 to 24 as of 7th July 2025.

What is the Explorer Belt? It is one of the 5 Top Awards in Scouting, aimed at the 16-24 age group. For the award, you spend 10 days exploring another Country (as a team of 5 without a leader), learning about the country and meeting and talking to local people.

We are looking to take 4 teams of Explorers, and 1 team of Network members, to the amazing hot island of Malta, for two weeks between 5th July and 20th July 25.

It will be hot - Malta temperatures in July are 22 deg C overnight, and 31 deg C during the day, so you will need to be able to cope with warm temperatures!

The expedition will cost between £1,100 and £1,250 (payable in stage payments). This includes Hampshire based training weekends, as well as the 2 week expedition to Malta.

The expedition is led by Jools Sore, with Jo Sore, Kathryn Fadli and Grace Peel. All four will be in Malta as the expedition leader support team.

Malta

Malta is an archipelago in the central Mediterranean between Sicily and the North African coast. It's a nation known for historic sites related to a succession of rulers including the Romans, Moors, Knights of Saint John, French and British. It has numerous fortresses, megalithic temples and the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum, a subterranean complex of halls and burial chambers dating to circa 4000 B.C.
