Project 27 is the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Scouts alternative expedition to the World Scout Jamboree, and is regarded as a sister expedition.

Places for young people are given to all those that apply for the World Scout Jamboree but can't fit into our allocation. Once this has all of these places have been accepted, there may be a few places left.

Project 27 Q&A
If you have just received an offer of a place on Project 27, please read the following Q&A, that goes with the acceptance form.

What is Project 27?
Project 27 will be a 3 week expedition to the USA, leaving the UK around 24th / 25th July 2027, and returning around 14th / 15th August 27.

During the 3 weeks, we will travel 1,100 miles by coach from Atlanta to Boston, staying at 4 Scout campsites, and visiting various places along the way - such as the Blue Ridge Mountains, Washington DC and Boston.
At each of the 4 Campsites, we will meet other Scouts (mainly US Scouts, but there will be other Scouts on the campsites as well). The campsites all will have a wide range of activities to do, including Water activities, Climbing activities, Shooting activities etc. We still have loads to arrange, so there will be plenty of exciting items to add to the expedition.

Leader and Support Applications
To run the expedition, we need around 20-30 Leaders and 3-4 Supporters. Applications for these are now open, and will close on Wednesday 22nd October 25. To apply, please complete the online application form at https://hampshirescouts.typeform.com/to/jppH6yUp

Please make sure that you have read the above Q&A form, including the Leader and Support section at the end.

The Leaders (in teams of 5) will help lead and run a team of 21 Scouts and Explorers during the next 20 months, and during the expedition itself. This will be the normal functions of running training weekends, and really getting to know the young people. During the expedition, the leaders will fully run and look after their 21 young people. As we are a sister expedition to the WSJ, Leaders will need to be a minimum of born on or before 27th June 2005

The Supporters will be a support team to assist the Project 27 core team, and the Leaders. This will be providing a wide range of support services during the next 20 months, and during the expedition. This could be doing paperwork, going shopping, taking somebody to the Doctors, standing in for a leader, waiting with somebody at a hospital etc. Supporters will need to be able to drive an automatic hire car in the USA (so will need to be at least 25 by 24th July 2027).

We need a mix of experience for leaders. We definitely need some leaders that have been on Internationals before, but, we also need leaders who this will be their first. We need leaders that have run Scout and Explorer units, but we also need leaders that are only just starting on their leadership journeys. Above all, we need leaders that are keen and enthusiastic to provide an amazing experience to young people over the next 2 years.
