What is Roverway 2024?

Roverway 2024 is the smallest of the UK Scouts Contingent International events (the others being the World Scout Jamboree and the European Scout Jamboree).

It is an International event, involving thousands of Scouts from across Europe and further afield, coming together for a fun, exciting International expedition.

The UK Contingent is currently launching Roverway 2024 taking place in Norway, and Hampshire Scouts are planning on entering Patrols into this event.

We currently do not have much information on Roverway, but we do know

  • It will be held in Norway in the summer of 2024
  • We enter Patrols of between 5 and 8 people
  • Each Patrol must have members aged 16-17 (older Explorers) and aged 18-22 (younger Network)
  • You must be born between 1 August 2002 and 22 July 2008 to take part as a participant.

The Roverway will have three main sections to the International Experience

  • During the first five days, participants will explore a self-chosen 'path' in locations such as Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim and Aalesund. Our UK patrols will join patrols from other countries to complete their chosen path, under the supervision of International Service Team (IST) and Norwegian Scout Groups. One of the highlights of Roverway is the opportunity for young people to truly shape their experience – and the paths will cater for many different interests.
  • All the patrols join for a large camp near Stavanger. Stavanger is often called "the gateway to the fjords", and its location on the west coast affords it access to some of Norway’s most iconic scenery. The camp is a chance to share stories from their paths and to take part in a programme of activities with young people from across Europe and beyond.
  • The final part of Roverway is the post-event, which sees the UK Contingent come together for a shared experience. We will ensure the post-event is youth shaped by actively involving participants in its design.

The Roverway process is very different to that of the World Scout Jamboree (WSJ).

For the WSJ, Hampshire is sending 163 Explorers and Leaders, and they have multiple training weekends led by the leader teams.

For Roverway, Hampshire is looking to send up to 8 Explorers and Network members in one patrol. We have applied for a second Patrol, but we will not know if we have this for a few weeks.

The patrols will have the opportunity to devise there own program of activities to get to know each other before the expedition, led by the Patrol Leaders.

Dates - All we currently know is that the Roverway itself has dates of 22nd July 24 to 1st August 24 in Norway. There may be flying before, and some time in Norway afterwards.

Costs - HQ have released a contingent fee of £1,999 per person. On top of this, the Patrol will have costs associated with local meet ups, training and camps etc., which will be down to the Patrol to decide.

IST - There will be opportunities for those wanting to go as part of the International Service Team. You must be born before 22nd July 2001. Please register above, and we will send out information when we have it.

To register your interest in IST at a Hampshire level, please complete the form at - https://hampshirescouts.typeform.com/to/t4uOvBJB
