Hampshire Scouts Marvellous European Road Trip 2023
Leader Applications
*** Last few remaining spaces now available ***
We are once again running a major International expedition as an alternative to the World Scout Jamboree in 2023.
Project 23 follows on from the very successful Project 19 Expedition to the USA for the last World Scout Jamboree cycle.
The Hampshire Youth Council voted for a three week expedition into Europe, and so we are now devising a fun filled three week coach trip, staying at multiple campsites in Austria, Czech Republic and Germany, undertaking loads of activities and sightseeing.
The expedition was initially available to all of the young people that applied for the World Scout Jamboree, and were not given a place on the World Scout Jamboree. We have around 194 young people, and 30+ leaders on this expedition.
We have a couple of spaces for experienced leaders, to complete the 6 leader teams.
The additional leaders will join existing leader teams, so part of the selection process will be to ensure that the leaders are all able to work together, to help deliver this exciting oppertunity.
Over the next 9 months, there are 3 more training weekends, to help prepare everybody for the expedition and to lead the teams during the three week expedition from 22nd July to 13th August 2023 (school summer holidays).
This means that we need 33 leaders to help lead and form 6 teams of 38, to lead through the remaining 4 training weekends over the next 15 months, and to lead the teams during the three week expedition in July / August 2023 (school summer holidays).
We are looking for experienced leaders in this instance. Applications are open to all Hampshire Adult Leaders who have gained a set of Wood Beads, and at least 5 years experience of Scout Leadership.
To help assist applications from those that normally would not be able to afford to attend, the Hampshire Scouts Board of Trustee's have set up a Project 23 Grant Fund.
The Project 23 Grant fund is managed by the Hampshire Scouts Grant Committee, completely separate from the Project 23 Management Team. Applying for a grant has no impact on your application for a place on Project 23.
Grants are available for up to 50% of the cost for participants and leaders.
More details on how to apply for a grant will be sent after applications have been received.
Most Groups and Districts also make grants to those attending International Expeditions. Please ask your leaders who you should contact to find out further information on the policies for your Group / District.
Project 23 Leader Applications
We have produced a Project 23 Leader Q&A document, that all those interested in applying, should read first. This will answer a lot of questions around the expedition, but it was written in October 21.
To apply, please download and complete an application form and send it in.
If you have any questions, please read the Leaders Q&A document, and if this hasn't answered them, please send us an E-mail at [email protected]
Think big. Dream wild. Act together.
We have now launched the applications for places in the Hampshire Scouts 25th World Scout Jamboree (WSJ) units for South Korea in the Summer of 2023.
The World Scout Jamboree is an International Camp for around 40,000 Scouts across the whole world, where Scouts from virtually every Country and Territory in the World, come together to have fun and make friends. Like the Olympics, it is held every 4 years, and moves around the World.
Hampshire County Scouts have been given 16 Patrols, which is 144 participants and 16 Leader places for the 25th World Scout Jamboree.
The last World Scout Jamboree was held in 2019 in West Virginia, in the USA. A short video from one of the Hampshire units can be found here. This will help to show you what the Jamboree experience is like.
To help assist applications from those that normally would not be able to afford to attend, the Hampshire Scouts Board of Trustee's have set up a WSJ Grant Fund.
The WSJ Grant fund is managed by the Hampshire Scouts Grant Committee, completely separate from the WSJ Management Team. Applying for a grant has no impact on your application for a place on the Jamboree. Grants are available for up to 50% of the cost for participants and leaders.
Grant decisions will be made by late October 21.
For selected leaders, you will be notified of the grant decision in November 2021.
Most Groups and Districts make grants to those attending the Jamboree. Please ask your leaders who you should contact to find out further information on the policies for your Group / District.

This information will be coming later (expected around November 21).
Hampshire County Scouts will be running an International expedition for participants that apply to the Jamboree, but do not gain a place on the Jamboree. This has a working title of Project 23.
Project 23 will be based on a 3 week expedition, undertaking loads of activities and having fun on different campsites around Europe.
Participants can not apply directly for Project 23, they must apply for the World Scout Jamboree. Once the WSJ places have been offered and accepted, all other WSJ applicants will be offered a place on Project 23. This is expected to occur around late November 21.
We are also very pleased to confirm that the County Board of Trustees have also set up a Project 23 Grant fund (similar to the WSJ Grant fund), which will enable grants of up to 50% to participants and leaders on Project 23.
We will be opening Leader applications for Project 23 around mid-September 21 (i.e. after the completion of the Jamboree Leader Application process).
Project 23 follows on from Project 19, which was run similarly for the last WSJ in 2019, and was a 3 week expedition to the USA. Click Here to see a video from Project 19.
If you have any questions, please READ the Q&A documents first, as there are a lot of things in there.
